The 2022 annual conference theme is Courts Leading the Way in Advancing Justice: A Call to Action (Milwaukee, WI). This theme will focus on the important concept that justice reform must come from within courts across the globe. Courts and court leaders must take charge of leading the way to advancing justice. Courts must envision how they can improve fairness and efficiency in the future. The Judiciary needs to lead the call to action in advancing justice and transforming their future.

This conference will emphasize the common topics of agile leadership as well as diversity and inclusion. Attendees will be given a tutorial on how to bounce back better than ever. Current world events are exposing racial inequalities and the realization that public trust and confidence in our courts has been shaken. We will explore new court roles for creating a more equitable landscape.

Monday's Keynote Speaker, Paul Krismer, can't wait to see everyone in Milwaukee!

NACM Cares

NACM is committed to giving back to the communities that host our conferences.  This year, NACM has selected the Milwaukee Justice Center as the annual conference NACM Cares organization.

About:

The Milwaukee Justice Center utilizes volunteers to address the unmet legal needs of Milwaukee County’s low-income unrepresented litigants through court-based programs and legal resources.

The Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC) is a collaborative project between the Milwaukee Bar AssociationMilwaukee County, and Marquette University Law School. The underlying philosophy of the project is that self-represented litigants have a fundamental right to access the justice system even if they cannot afford an attorney or do not qualify for legal aid. Generally, self-represented litigants who earn more than 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines do not qualify for free legal services.

This means, in 2022, a single person earning more than $17,000 or a family of four earning more than $34,000 annually is considered ineligible for most free legal assistance. These families struggle to pay for basic necessities; rent, groceries and utilities. Thus, when faced with civil legal issues, many have no choice but to access the courts alone. As such, the MJC strives to address the substantive and procedural barriers facing self-represented litigants so that they can better navigate the legal system.
